Linen Sheets: online comparison shopping

I founded linoto because I love linen sheets. As a designer I enjoy creating beautiful things that feel special to me and to others. Also, I was unable to find colorful, affordable linen sheets in modern styles. Occasionally I like to see what's available from other lines. I searched online for queen size real flax linen sheet sets (flat sheet, fitted sheet, 2 pillowcases) shipped to New York, NY. My results are listed below.

I did not find tremendous innovation in styling or customization from most manufacturers. The biggest surprise is the lack of information on fitted sheet depth. It's great that Williams-Sonoma offers monogramming, although that makes the items non-returnable. The Linoto Belgian Eco-linen is certainly of the same quality (and likely from the same mill) as that sold at Frette for more than three times the price. I love the colors at Belgianhuis. Bed skirts are also an excellent offering. But Linoto remains the most affordable option for 100% linen sheet sets in a wide range of colors and styles. Linoto also allows you to choose from two mattress depths and 2 pillowcase styles. I'm sure I did not include every linen sheet line in my survey, but I'd love to hear from others searching for linen sheets. I hope this is helpful.

In the last 2 years, little change has occurred in the affordability of linen sheets. Only 1 company, Linoto, offers 2 fitted sheet depths (10-13" standard depth or 14-19" deep pocket). This is important because mattresses come in many depths. Only 3 companies, Linoto, Belgianhuis, and GarnetHill, offer linen sheets in colors beyond white, ivory, and natural. The most affordable company to purchase a queen size set of linen sheets is Linoto.

  1. jason,

when i was online comparison shopping, there are two brands i considered that you didn't include, the Area Simone (http://www.goodnightnaturals.com/simone.html or designpublic or somewhere else has them also), and the linenline.biz (which i found some good reviews for, so they were my second runner-up)(and some of their stuff is cheaper, but def. not more beautiful - AND their customer services was dinged in a review or two i found - whereas yours has been exemplary!).

as far as what i looked at and definitely couldn't afford, there's of course the sferra classico, which is $$$, but because it is sold locally, it is what convinced me to want some linen sheets for myself, since i got to handle it in person. man that stuff is nice. when i've won the lottery, i suppose. :)

also the bella notte (bellanottelinens), which is also quite pricey, and i think it's washed linen (like the eileen fisher (eileenfisher.com or @ garnet hill), and so i assume you didn't put those in your post because they're the pre-aged stuff. i did buy a pair of their cases (on sale, discontinued color) and i do really like them, i am curious how they'll compare with the linoto!).

    anyhow, just FYI...and probably TMI...

also, i was really hoping to find more reviews of your sheets online - once we get ours and i have tried it out, i'm SO posting a review! multiple places, even! :)

  2. ah okay, at garnet hill you can get the eileen fisher washed bedding in a "pure white" queen set (flat sheet, fitted sheet, two cases) for $365.00 + $18.95 shipping.

they used to a number of different colors, but now only four colors, all of them rather, well, white.

  3. I would like to know what is the difference in the texture of linen (damask) tablecloth and sheeting. Is it similar, different weight? I'm just investigating linen at this point.

  4. As for the difference in linen damask and sheeting, it is mostly weave. Damask tablecloths are woven in a jacquard or satin weave (like cotton sateen). The thread count of high-end linen tablecloths, particularly "double damasks" is usually higher than most of the linen sheeting available on the contemporary retail market. I wish thread count was more openly stated in the linen sheeting market.

Alas, true hedonists like myself must trust or inspect before purchasing.

  5. The only thing I can see that would make your company the very very best place to purchase linen sheets in the US, would be to offer queen size pillowcases (avoiding the stuffed sausage effect). This could be offered in the drop down menu (with a higher price tag) for sets if someone selected full, or queen size as their bed size.
